Detailed Overview

Under the clinical direction of the Clinical Chief, Rehabilitation Services and as a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Physiotherapist provides physiotherapy assessments and interventions to clients on the assigned care unit and/or program; provides assessments in accordance with established standards, procedures and protocols.


Responsibilities

  1. Plans and provides physiotherapy assessment, treatment, education and discharge planning for clients in assigned area(s) in accordance with physician's specific orders, referrals and/or established standing orders.
  2. Records and submits workload measurements; maintains client health records as per departmental standards, hospital guidelines and applicable regulations.
  3. Communicates with physicians, other health disciplines and client's families regarding client's care and progress; attends relevant patient care conferences and communicates pertinent information; participates in departmental meetings.
  4. Educates clients, relevant family or care providers on an individual basis or in groups.
  5. Reports equipment malfunction, hazards or unsafe practices in the work area to the Clinical Chief.
  6. Supervises client care activities taught and delegated to non-professional Rehabilitation Services staff such as the preparation of ice packs, the use of wax and assisted walking.
  7. Provides demonstration of procedures, instruction, orientation and feedback to physiotherapy students, interns or residents during their clinical practicum, as required by the Clinical Chief.
  8. Participates in Hospital and departmental educational activities such as rounds, in-service education, orientation of new staff, relevant workshops and special interest meetings, as appropriate to work assignment.
  9. Contributes to the department's Quality Improvement Program by assisting with the development of standards, audits and program evaluation as assigned.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Baccalaureate degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited school.

Current practising member of the College of Physical Therapists of BC and eligible for membership with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
