Detailed Overview

Within the context of a client and family centred care model, and in accordance with professional practice standards, policies and procedures and the visions and values of the organization, this position works under the general supervision of a Psychologist, and conducts a series of standardized neuropsychological/psychometric tests to assess cognitive functioning, education level, learning difficulties, personality, quality of life and vocational interests. Provides psychologist with written and/or verbal summary of test results and the client's performance and behaviour to assist in diagnosis and treatment interventions.


Responsibilities

  1. Picks up clients with possible psychiatric or neurological disorders from the ward or outpatient department and escorts them to the testing room for application of appropriate battery of neuropsychological tests.
  2. Administers a standardized battery of neuropsychological/psychometric tests according to established guidelines by methods such as assessing various aspects of cognitive functioning, applying and scoring questionnaires by referring to instructions in order to assess personality, mood, quality of life and vocational interests.
  3. Provides a written and/or verbal report to psychologist regarding client's behaviour and performance during testing to assist in diagnosis and treatment interventions. Assures client confidentiality.
  4. Demonstrates testing procedures to interns, observes interns performing application of batteries, and provides corrective action as required.
  5. Participates in quality control program by performing duties such as monitoring standards by checking test performance and results, ensuring testing processes follow established procedures, learning and applying new and updated tests, and guaranteeing equipment is in good working condition.
  6. Records amount of time spent administering battery tests, writing reports, providing guidance to interns and other duties for monthly accounts of time.
  7. Ensures appropriate forms are completed by applicable parties prior to administering neuropsychological/psychometric tests, maintains client files by filing and securing test information and enters test results onto a computerized database program.
  8. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
  9. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience


Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Two years' direct neuropsychological/psychometric testing experience with a variety of clinical populations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Basic knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Basic knowledge of evidence based psychological practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, co-workers, clients and their families, both one-on-one and in groups.
