Description

The Driver/Swamper/Expiditer role is an integral part of our Thrift Store operations. This position picks up and delivers goods and recycle from the Mount Arrowsmith Ministries locations. This role has a large focus on accepting and sorting goods at the warehouse.

HOURS:

  • 21 hours a week over three days working a seven (7) hour shifts.
  • The position is currently eligible for overtime pay and will be dealt with in accordance with The Salvation Army's policy, which may be changed by The Salvation Army in its discretion from time to time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Loads and unloads goods at the warehouse, store, destination, and other storage facilities.
  • Provides customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service.
  • Operating or running a forklift.
  • Cleaning/upkeeping of warehouse and backyard.
  • Seasonal pick-ups/deliveries to/from admin/food bank/soup kitchen.
  • Ensures safe and careful handling of all deliveries and donations while protecting property, including donations and vehicles.
  • Takes responsibility for daily and overall safety, maintenance, operation of vehicle and records of such.
  • Selects donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to The Salvation Army standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of legislative and The Salvation Army policies such as Health & Safety Regulations, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts.
  • General cleanup/garbage emptying.
  • Ability to perform work unsupervised.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful applicant will have completed High School (Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.)
  • Valid "G or C" class license with appropriate certification REQUIRED
  • Proof of a clean driving record REQUIRED

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Physical ability to lift heavy bags, furniture, etc., long periods of standing while sorting.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Good time management.
  • Knowledge of the area would be preferable.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.

Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
