Regular Part Time (0.40 FTE)

Correctional Health Services (CHS) is a province-wide specialized service program providing care for clients during their time in one of BC's 10 provincial correctional facilities. Our clients are more likely to require mental health and substance use support than those outside the system; and we provide them health services including medical and nursing care, mental health and substance use treatment support, basic emergency response services and more. We believe everyone deserves a chance to heal and CHS offers a non-judgemental place to help make that happen.

This position is with CTT program (Community Transition Teams) within CHS, that supports clients during their transition phase following release from one of the 10 correctional facilities, to their respective communities.

We are looking for a physician with experience in assessment & management of patients with substance dependence, concurrent mental health disorders and complex chronic medical issues to support CTT program (Community Transition Teams). The Physician will collaboratively work with the interdisciplinary team in order to effectively plan and manage the patients thorough their transition phase following release from correctional centre. Physician will be expected to carry a small case load of complex clients including supporting clients who are on Opioid Agonist Therapy (induction & maintenance of OAT in community). Physician will support regional CTT teams and client care via way of in-person appointments, when possible and leveraging virtual health as appropriate to facilitate care in communities with barriers to accessing care.

The interested physicians should be eligible for provisional or full licensure with CPSBC. Fellowship with the College of Family Physicians, or equivalent, is mandatory. Experience in addiction medicine is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the on-call schedule. Reconciliation is an ongoing process and a shared responsibility for all of us. The BC Governments' unanimous passage of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act was a significant step forward in this journey—one that all health authorities are expected to support as we work in cooperation with Indigenous Peoples to establish a clear and sustainable path to lasting reconciliation. True reconciliation will take time and ongoing commitment to work with Indigenous Peoples as they move toward self-determination. Guiding these efforts Crown agencies must remain focused on creating opportunities that implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Mandate.
