Your Opportunity

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide campers with an unforgettable experience, fostering friendships, and creating lifelong memories.
  • Contribute to the successful operation of CH summer camp programs, creating fun and adventure for campers in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Support the coordination of staff, activities, and supplies as required by the weekly schedule
  • Serve as an on-site resource for summer camp staff, including preparation for activities, clean up, sanitization/disinfection of camp facilities and equipment, first aid, group coverage, camper discipline, or responding to parent questions, comments, and concerns
  • Ensure that camp staff meet the standards and expectations set by CH, and the Program Content for WOW Camps. Campers should be active, engaged, having fun, and learning something new!
  • Assist with the long-term improvement and development of CH summer camps by working with the Coordinator, Recreation Programs on program development, staff training, etc.
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton's Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a counselor with Ways of the Woods camps, or proven equivalency with other recreation programs
  • Strong creativity, leadership, and collaboration skills required for mentorship of other staff, and campers
  • A positive attitude, effective communication skills, combined with the ability and willingness to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Post-secondary education, specialized training, or certification in activities or facilities relating to Recreation program activities is an asset:
    • Wilderness First Responder
    • PMBI - Mountain Bike Instructor L1, 2, or 3
    • ACCT Accredited Level 1, 2, or 3 Challenge Course Certification
    • Paddle Canada certifications (canoe / kayak)
    • Previous experience working with, educating or supervising children
  • Prior experience or skill with any of the following activities is considered an asset:
    • Archery, Biking, Boating, Teambuilding / Challenge Course use, Outdoor Education (i.e. survival skills), Work or experience with Birds of Prey (Raptor Camp)
  • Ability to travel to the work site not serviced by public transportation (Kelso Conservation Area OR Mountsberg Conservation Area)
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Successful candidates will be required to have Standard First Aid and CPR certification prior to first day of employment
  • Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
  • A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class "G2", with a satisfactory Driver's Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.

    • Availability to work Monday - Friday for shifts approximately between 8:00am - 4:30pm (times may vary)
