Description

The Maritime Employers Association (MEA) is looking for occasional longshoremen at the Port of Hamilton. Each employee must provide their availability for work, on site at the Hiring Hall during each of the hiring periods daily (0800h, 1300h and 1800h). This practice follows a first-come-first-serve basis of priority sequence labor dispatch. The Hiring Hall is located at 651 Burlington Street E., Hamilton, Ontario.
It is important to understand the industry fluctuations and seasonal demand for labour at the Port. In other words, shifts will be extremely casual to start and will require you to be available for continuous work during these peak periods (typically August until January is the high peak)

Occasional Longshoremen Base Hourly Rate: $23.93/hour

Those who are most qualified and who have a strong attendance record, may have the opportunity to move into the higher employee group, and thus receive an increase to a new base rate of $30.29 per hour. There are a variety of premiums offered and available to those pool members such as evenings, weekends and holiday premiums applied to your hourly base pay rate.
