About this opportunity

If you're an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who's eager to make a difference in the field of rehabilitation and driver assessment, CBI Health has an exceptional opportunity for you to work toward your professional goals with the support of one of the largest healthcare networks in Canada. As an Occupational Therapist at CBI Health in the Ottawa area, you will assess clients' physical, cognitive and visual abilities related to driving and providing recommendations to assist clients with their return to pre-accident, pre-injury levels of driving.

This is a part-time position starting at one day per week with the potential for growth.

Take an inside look at what you'll do each day

  • Evaluate clients' cognitive, visual and physical fitness to drive
  • Evaluate the impact of anxiety on driving and passenger travel
  • Determine and implement treatment plans
  • Evaluate vehicle adaptation needs
  • Write reports
  • Track post-attribution of recommended adaptations and driving with these adaptations
  • Coordinate the delivery/installation vehicle adaptations
  • Network with internal and external stakeholders to promote new and existing programs
  • Perform regular, timely charting, reporting and communication
  • Supervise driving instructors who will act as your support personnel during treatment plan implementation

What you need to be successful

  • At least 1-3 years of clinical experience
  • A Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Experience in the field of driving and/or a Graduate Certificate in Driving Rehabilitation
  • Strong clinical skills in one or more of the following: orthopaedic injuries, cognitive impairment, anxiety (driver and passenger), or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)·
  • Experience in the private sector, particularly with auto sector legislation and WSIB
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making and analysis skills
  • Dedication to providing the highest quality of client care in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently
  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel·
  • Empathy and an effective ability to build rapport with clients
  • A valid driver's licence and have access to a reliable vehicle
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to facilitate our clients' needs by exceeding their goals
