Permanent Part Time

The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post-Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, Wound Care, Respiratory Therapy, and Transitional & Remote Care. The care and services provided at TGHC helps facilitate patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery so our patients can return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities. TGHC operates in 2 sites – the Main site (Church& Bloor St), Harbour Light and a Specialized Care Centre (Victoria Park & McNicoll)

Position Summary and Responsibility:

The Patient Care Department at the Salvation Army, Toronto Grace Health Centre are currently seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist Professional Practice Leader. The Registered Respiratory Therapist Practice Leader will promote a patient and family centered care approach. You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You have clinical lead expertise, competence, and technical skills as related to the position. You are also flexible to changing priorities and committed to continuous learning and professional development. You have great interpersonal skills, and you effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. You will take a leadership role in supporting the RRT manager and act as a resource to support the respiratory team and students advocating and providing exceptional health care to patients and families. This position supports the Hospital’s mandate by advancing care through teaching. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients, and families. This position will report to the Patient Care Manager and the RRT Manager. The principal responsibilities of the PCC include:

Clinical Practice

Work closely with the inter-professional team using evidence-based practice to plan and implement therapeutic interventions and coordinate care for patients at TGHC which includes the RECOVER Program for Chronic Critical Illness and the Home Ventilation Program.

Lead the provision of orientation to staff and students.

Assist the RT Manager with the identification and product evaluation of capital and operational equipment needs for respiratory services.

Leadership

Establish and maintain partnerships with external vendors and coordinates with the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care for funding support of client equipment including the Ventilator Equipment Pool (VEP)

Oversee external/internal transports requiring RT accompaniment.

Act as a resource to support staffing for clinical workload coverage.

Supports the development/revision of clinical practice guidelines, protocols, policies, and procedures.

Participate in professional and program initiatives.

Advocate to influence health care practice, policy, and outcomes.

Identity opportunities for change and provide recommendations for quality improvement as necessary.

Promote profession specific initiatives within the hospital and externally.

Qualifications and Education

Good Standing with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)

Minimum 2 years’ experience working in acute care or chronic care.

Good understanding of funding processes for VEP and Ministry of Health for home transition

BLS certified, ACLS is preferred.

Provide RTs and other health professionals with continuing education and professional development opportunities.

Facilitate, lead and maintain the student placement programs.

Educate patients, families, and members of healthcare team.

Support community nursing agencies with education/training on tracheostomy care, suctioning and mechanical ventilation.

Enhance personal and professional development by attending educational opportunities and conferences.
